Help !! I need to lose 25 kilos

naughty but nice

Yum !

Hi, I'm Kathy. I have been a yo-yo dieter all my adult life. I have tried dozens of diets over the past 20 years, and the reason I'm writing this is to share my successes and failures with you.

I started my first diet when I was 19 years old. I had been married for just 6 months, and cooking all my husbands favourite meals was pure joy for me as he also had a sweet tooth, and it was puddings every day. Needless to say the weight just piled on making it impossible for me to fit into my clothes! They were all straining at the seams.

The first diet I tried was a high protein-low carbohydrate one. Although it worked quite well, and I did lose weight (around 6 kg. in the first month), the cost of all the meat, fish and cheese, put too much of a strain on our meagre budget. There was also a major drawback, I had started to suffer with bad breath, and there was this strange burnt taste in my mouth most of the time. So it wasn't long before I returned to my old eating habits and regained all the weight I had lost.I looked for another diet to try, this time I tried the Fat Unit diet which counted the grams of fat in all the food you ate. This was high in carbohydrates and low in fat, but because you could eat unlimited amounts of Pasta, Rice and Potatoes, I found it a very slow way to lose my weight. Next came the F-Plan diet, with it's high fibre content, this was very good at making you feel full, but the side effects were not nice (flatulence!) So as I had failed yet again, I thought I would try some of the quick-fix diets, some of which were bizarre. There were the weight loss pills, weight loss candy, the grapefruit diet, the banana and milk diet, and various meal replacements, I must have tried them all, none of which worked very well.

Then I joined a slimming club, and this did work, i lost all my surplus weight, and reached my target, all within 4 months. My downfall was that at last i could enjoy a great social life, and I did enjoy it as I was now divorced and I went out and about most evenings and weekends, and guess what? Yes the weight piled back on.

When I was at my heaviest (95 kgs. and only 5 foot 3 inches) I decided to go it alone by counting calories, and recording everything I ate each day. The fist month I lost 4 kgs. the diet worked all the time I remembered to write down my daily food intake, but i was forgetful and thus doomed to failure yet again.

I've never been very energetic, but I thought i might try exercise, and so I bought a couple of work-out videos. the warm-up exercises that had to be done before embarking on the actual workout left me so tired that I just gave up. But undefeated by this setback I decided to buy a stepper, I found a used one on eBay really cheap. My thought was that I could use it on rainy days when I couldn't go out for my usual 30 minute walk. I had only had the stepper for a week when I fell off it and sprained my ankle. So that was that!

I have now bought a diet book on Low GI foods, and have taken out a subscription to a monthly slimming magazine. The diets and recipes seem very tasty, and I intend to embark on this my final attempt to rid myself of this 25 kg. burden, and to endeavour to keep it off.

The diet that was the most successful in the past was the Slimming Club one, and I think that was because I was accountable to the other members, if I didn't lose weight I lost face. So I intend to keep a diary of my day to day food intake and the ups and downs of my dieting week. Perhaps this will prove to be the final solution.

What do you think?  Am I a hopeless case?

Not another banana diet - PLEASE

When will I suceed ?

How long will it take for me to lose 25 Kilos ?
